Family came to Ohio from Greensburg, West Moreland, PA. Unable to
work after man hit him in the head with an ax when he tried to collect
an overdue debt. Came to Richland Co. with his parents in 1877. A
carpenter for two years, he was in the "stave" trade for two years,
and then rented and operated a farm for 16 years. Later he bought a
150 acre farm in section 36 of Butler Township, Richland Co.
Republican, school director, supervisor, member of Christian church.
